Dear Athletes, Coaches, and Fans,
As the Wilmington Beach Blast Nighttime Cross Country Meet in Wilmington, North Carolina nears, we have important clarifications and updates.
During these times of uncertainty surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, we have been required to make constant changes to the event to meet the City of Wilmington's guidelines, and the North Carolina Governor's Executive Order.
To stay compliant,the Wilmington Beach Blast is only open to high school athletes in NCISAA Teams, and elementary and middle school athletes on a Club Team.Yes, you may enter one person, or fifty, but it must be a team entry only. NCISAA athletes may not run unattached.
High school athletes, who are part of any other high school athletic association, even if on a Club Team are not permitted to participate, as well as individuals running unattached.Again, for high school athletes, only NCISAA athletes are permitted.
We know this is frustrating, and does not seem fair. We are also struggling with these restrictions.
Our goal has been to provide at least one cross country meet to athletes, especially seniors. While we are trying our best to meet all guidelines, it's becoming increasingly more difficult with the mass gathering restrictions.
We hope you understand the position we have placed in and continue to support our athletes.
We thank you for your understanding and patience as we try to navigate through this pandemic together.
***UPDATE SEPTEMBER 1ST***
Athletes, Coaches, and Fans,
This week we were informed by the Wilmington City Attorney's Office that the Beach Blast Cross Country Invitational will have to be modify who is allowed to participate. They sent us the following information:
The students who are participating as part of their regular and sanctioned NCISAA meet for the cross country season will be allowed to participate, because official educational events are generally exempted from the Governor's orders.
The other students who go to NCHSAA schools and are only there on an "invitational" basis for an event not sanctioned by their schools or the NCHSAA, will not be allowed to participate.
The plan is acceptable for eligible participants with the following two additions:
*You will need to take the temperatures of all participants, and send anyone home who registers at 101 or higher;
*You will need to have a staff member to be responsible for making sure that there are no spectators. It is a City venue, but it is the responsibility of the event planner to make sure that this safety measure is met.

It is the City of Wilmington's park, and we are required to follow their rules as they see fit to mitigate liability. We are grateful to be able to provide a real live race for eligible runners, but would have hoped for the continued inclusion of NCHSAA athletes. We look forward to assisting with NCHSAA schools, the East Region, and the Mideastern Conference once the season commencences.
No payments from individual athletes or NCHSAA schools have been processed, and will be returned.
While we are excited to return to racing with please be aware of the following modifications for participants:
*No NCHSAA Participants.
*No Spectators. (Coaches are allowed, 2 per team)
*Masks are to be worn at all times except while running (including coaches)
*No Team Scoring. Since we are running waves athletes will be given finish times only.
*No team camps/tents - athletes, upon exiting their bus, car are expected to be warming up in preparation for the race.
*No award ceremony. Top ten athletes and medalists can pick up their awards on Saturday at Fleet Feet Sports in Wilmington.
*No water provided (athletes will need to bring their own water)

ABOUT THE EVENT
As with many events, due to the pandemic, the Wilmington Beach Blast will look different this year. Our goal is simple, to offer athletes an opportunity to run and compete.To meet this goal, many of the "normal" race logistics will not take place. We need everyone's help and cooperation in following the guidelines so we can continue to offer this event. We thank you for your understanding.
The Wilmington Beach Blast is following all guidelines outlined in the North Carolina Executive Order.
START/FINISH LINE
-The start area is lcoated behind the Miracle Field at Olsen Park.
-The start line will be broken into sections to enhance social distancing.
-The finish line chute will be closed except to athletes crossing the finish line.
-Masks are requierd at the Start Line - no exceptions. There will be a location for athletes to discard their mask as the race starts. We encourage athletes to use disposable masks as masks will be thrown away.
REGISTRATION
-Registration is located at the Miracle Field 3rd Base picnic tables.
-Only coaches are to check in athletes.
TEMPERATURE CHECKS
-The City of Wilmington is requiring event staff to check temperatures of all athletes.
-Temperature Check is located at Registration at the Miracle Field 3rd Base Picnic Tables. Athletes may have their temperatures checked while coaches check in the team.
-A schedule of what time athletes are to get their temperatures checked is listed below.
SPECTATORS & PARENTS
-We are sorry, but the City of Wilmington has mandated that spectators are not allowed. Parents must remain at their vehicles. Coaches are allowed, 2 per team.
-Tents and Team Gatherings are not permitted. We ask that you stay near your vehicle or bus except during warm up and competition. When not warming up or competing, athletes are to stay near their vehicle or bus.
ATHLETES & COACHES
-The plan is to arrive, get your temperature checked, warm up, run, then leave the park.
-Athletes may arrive no earlier than 45 minutes prior to their event start time
-Coaches are to check in athletes at Registration. Only one coach at Registration please. Registration is located at the Miracle Field 3rd Base picnic tables.
-Masks are required except while competing. Masks are required at the start line, no exceptions. There will be a place at the start of the race for athletes to discard their mask. We recommend using only disposable masks as they will be thrown away.
-Athletes are to leave the park, or return to their vehicle/bus, immediately following their race.
OTHER INFORMATION
-Hand sanitizer will be available at Registration.
-Public park restrooms will be open.
-No food or concessions will be available.
-Water will not be available. Athletes need to bring their own water bottles.

CONCESSIONS:

COST:
$75 per gender, unlimited entries. So a boys and a girls team is $150.
$20 per individual entry.
